Happy Fish

All of our koi and goldfish are very happy in the new backyard pond. They have lots of room to swim and have all gotten much bigger in the extra space.
Some of the goldfish, the first inhabitants of the new pond, spawned when we first put them in the pond. Quite a few of the baby goldfish have survived and are about three inches long now!
After all of my husband's hard work on this project to dig, fill and landscape the pond, it's been so relaxing to sit and enjoy the beautiful fish enjoying their new home.

Pond Progress

Here's a quick progress update on our new backyard koi pond:

Due to some heavy rain over the past few days, work has come to a halt until everything outside dries out a little more.
In these photos you can see the basic shape (14 feet by 14 feet) and depth (about 30 inches). The sides still need some work to level the soil around the rim and then we'll be ready to place in the pond lining.

In the Garden

Today's weather forecast is for lots of heat and humidity. It's already a very humid morning. My camera lens fogged up when I left my air conditioned house causing this halo effect from the early morning sun. Pretty!

Little water droplets look like clear beads on this lady's mantle leaf.

A new pink variegated water lily bloomed for the first time this morning.

And the goldfish in the pond are waiting for their morning feeding.

In the Garden

This week in the garden. . . the water lilies are blooming!

A cluster of white flowers with yellow centers.

A big pale yellow flower.

These smaller flowers are bright magneta with yellow centers.

They are all hardy water lilies that live in our small garden ponds year round in Indiana. As long as the roots don't feeze in the winter, they provide these gorgeous blooms all summer long!

A Frog With a Tail

Take a look at this little guy. . . not quite a full fledged frog, he still has his tadpole tail!

He must have just emerged from one of our little garden ponds and hopped across the patio to sit on the edge of this fountain. I hadn't seen one at quite this stage before now, so I wanted to share the photo.

My husband put some big bullfrog tadpoles in our small garden ponds. This is one of the tadpoles in early Spring. You can see a few red leaves just starting to grow on the waterlilly plant, the tadpole is to the upper right of the leaves. We thought it would be fun to see the tadpoles turn to frogs and the frogs will help eat a lot of bugs from the garden and any mosquitos from the pond.
