Tag, You're It!

I've been tagged twice. I've been tagged by jmwjewelry and before I could respond I was tagged by Carolynn/nilochlainn. So here goes!

THE RULES:* Link to your tagger and list these rules on your blog.* Share 7 facts about yourself on your blog, some random, some weird.* Tag 7 people at the end of your post by leaving their name as well as links to their blog.* Let them know they have been tagged by leaving a comment on their blog.

1. Being "tagged" reminds me that I still need to deisgn and print my new holiday gift tags!

2. I love the Holiday season! I love the crafting, decorating the house, baking cookies, wrapping gifts, and yes even the shopping. But the cold weather that comes with, not so much. The snow is pretty but does it have to be so cold?

3. I prefer summer. Yes, to me 85 degrees is nice and even a little humidity is good. I'd prefer to live at the beach.

4. All the talk about the new Twilight movie and vampires reminded me of the old daytime TV show Dark Shadows. Am I the only one old enough to remember that?

5. When I was a kid, I thought it would be cool to live in Africa so that I could have a lion as a pet. Now I just have three Burmese cats.

6. I'm cooking the Thanksgiving meal for my family this year.

7. I love Italian food.

Making Felt Balls

I've been making some new felt balls for my felted wool poppy brooches.

At first try, I needle felted the center balls for my felted poppy brooches. This time I used the wet felting technique. I coiled up wisps of wool roving into a loose ball. Then I just dampened the wool. Next I made my hands soapy and rolled the ball lightly between my palms. As the ball started to harden, I could apply more pressure. Once it all comes together, I rinsed in cool water to rinse out the soap. I need a little more practice, but this method works very well.

Once I have the flowers assembled, I'll be listing more felted flower poppies in my Etsy shop, Felt Sew Good! And be sure to check out the Customer Appreciation Giveaway going on in my shop through the month of November! You could win a felted poppy brooch and other great prizes.

New Holiday "Heart Felt" Ornaments

I've just made a new batch of "Heart Felt" hearts!

I've been getting reading for the first holiday shoppers in my Etsy shop, Felt Sew Good. I'm not an early shopper myself, but some of you may want to get a head start. These are the latest version of my "Heart Felt" embroidered hearts. I love these little hearts, and they are fun to make. These cute puffed heart ornaments were made from felted recycled wool sweaters. They are embroidered in traditional Christmas colors of red, gold, dark green, light green and cream and each is accented with a tiny vintage button. They are blanket stitched around the edge and "puffed" with a little stuffing. Each heart has a tiny red satin ribbon loop for hanging. The back of each ornament is unadorned. They would be lovely hanging on your Christmas tree, or spreading holiday cheer anywhere in your home. Or use one as a sweet accent tied to that very special holiday gift!

The Sabrina is a bit smaller, classic style handbag in a soft chocolate brown with a mother-of-pearl buckle.

And this Jasper style handbag, in oatmeal colored wool is the popular pleated bag.

These bags, and all of the toys and accessories in my shop, Felt Sew Good, have been designed and handmade by me, from felted, recycled wool sweaters.

A Bountiful Harvest!

Even though it's been a sometimes too wet, and kind of cool summer, we are getting a bountiful late harvest of vegetables.

I picked a basket full of tomatoes to make a big batch of chilli. It's great to have in the freezer for an easy homemade meal! And the beautiful bell peppers are great for stuffing, to use with stir fry, pepper steak and also freeze well to use over the winter.

I made the fun collage of my vegetables using the new collage feature in Picnik! Picnik is a photo editing software that you use in your online browser. It has lots of fun photo editing features, and fonts shapes and seasonal graphics that are easy to use.

New Felted Goodness!

As much as I love summer, (aaaah, the warm air, the long days) Autumn will officially be here in a few weeks. So, I decided I had better get busy to restock new items in my Etsy shop, Felt Sew Good!

I've been out shopping the past few days for wool sweaters. Not to wear, of course, but to felt and make into new handbags, toys and accessories!

Here are a few samples of some new felted wool flower brooches and some samples of the latest felted sweaters. Check back here often, or go to my Etsy shop, Felt Sew Good, to see what new creations are availble for purchase.

What a Surprise!

These flowers are what I've always called Surprise Lily. Some people know them as Magic Lily or Naked Lady. They grow from bulbs that just produce leaves in the Spring. The leaves are a thick clump that resemble wide daffodil leaves. After a few weeks, the leaves die back and the area where the bulbs are planted is bare for a while.

Then in August, surprise! About the time I have completely forgotten about them, suddenly new flowers start to emerge.

When the flowers open, they are pretty, pink, sort of exotic looking lilies.

What a nice surprise!

Felted Wool Plush Toys

I've been working on some new plush toys for my Etsy shop, FeltSewGood. I made this pair of Orcas, Mama and baby, some more horses and I'm working on a new cat design.

And, here's my latest plush toy listing, a new dinosaur, the Stegosaurus!

The Stegosaurus was made from deep dusty blue and sage green felted, recycled wool sweaters. And all my new animals are stuffed with eco-friendly "Ingeo" fibers made from the renewable resource corn.
Watch for more new listings in the coming weeks. For more pictures of the Stegosaurus, and more felted goodness, go to my Etsy shop, FeltSewGood.

b(eco)me

It's good to b(eco)me wishy-washy.

Encourage friends, family and coworkers to drink from reusable mugs rather than polystyrene cups. Launch a mug movement in your office. Wash and reuse mugs and cups and ditch the paper trail left behind by your daily latte. To get your own reusable coffee mug, check out these and other Etsy ceramic artists.

Morning mug, yellow and teal by Twisted River Clay

Large mug, porcelain with buttery white glaze and sandy high spots by Barb Dunshee
White and blue mug - handthrown pottery by Dovecote Design

Go a step further and reduce and reuse paper waste by using a filterless coffee maker with a french press. Trade out your individual bottle water for a reusable water bottle. Wash, refill and drink up.

BARE FACTS & STATS: If every coffee-drinking American used a refillable mug instead of a disposable cup, it would spare our environment close to 7 million pounds of carbon dioxide emissions every day. The annual amount of oil expected to produce plastic bottles sold in the United States is enough to fuel 100,000 cars for an entire year.
