ReplyDeleteOrange Poppy Felted Flower Brooch
ReplyDeleteI would choose this broach because it reminds me of my Grandma West. She was a teacher in a one-room school house on the prairies of Alberta Canada in the 1950 - 70s. She created a water colour painting of orange poppies that I love and cherished very much as a child. The painting has gone missing and I think about it often as she has since passed away and it was my connection to her. My grand mother was a very strong independent woman who never remarried after her husband committed suicide in 1953. She raised two children all alone and struggled and fought against all odds and societies' shuns and scorns as suicide and single parenting was shameful back then.
This poppy is a symbol of her strength and courage to overcome all the odds, keep her focus on her career and family and to never ever give in to what society thinks.
I love this broach as I loved my grandma. I am a grief counsellor and having symbols of our loved ones are wonderful ways to stay connected. I grow red poppies in my garden and talk to her through them.
Beautiful broaches, but this one is very special to me. Sandy
